A LESSON WITHOUT A COMMITTMENT IS A WASTE OF TIME

March 13, 2016

Family,

Dad - thanks for the talk and your thoughts. About commitments - during the meeting with Elder Stevensen he quoted President Packer who said something like, 'a lesson without a commitment is a waste of time.' Like you said, commitments invite people to change and to act, showing their faith and helping them to repent.

Mom - thanks for the package. Also, I never thanked the Gibby's for the package I got a few weeks ago. So thank you Gibby Family. I really appreciate it.

It has been a good week here in Hong Kong. We had a good lesson with Zou JM. After english class we taught her and the other english class members found out what we were doing and really wanted to tag along so we let them. So we had 2 investigators, 2 members and a non-member with us. We had a good lesson about the Atonement. Zou JM bore a great testimony and it is evident that her faith is growing. The spirit was strong and we had about everyone sharing testimony or thoughts. It was great. I constantly am reminded of the importance of listening to the investigators and the spirit to know what to say and to do. The lessons are so much better and powerful as we do this and teach by the spirit instead of worrying what we might say next.

We met 2 wonderful men this week that are not from Hong Kong. One is a half peruvian and half chinese man named rafael and the other is a german man named ulrich. We gave them each a copy of the book of Momon and excited to hear about their experiences with it.

The longer I am on my mission the more I realize how God is in the details of our lives. As we make an effort to ponder and think about the tender mercies He gives us, our Heavenly Father can show us what he has done and what he is doing in each of our lives everyday. I am starting to realize that He plays a lot bigger part in this work than I previously thought. I am grateful for a Heavenly Father we can communicate with through sincere prayer and for the Spirit He gives us to lead us and guide us and help us find the way.

Love,

Elder Stratford
